A life-long renegade, singer/songwriter David Allan Coe was one of the most colorful and unpredictable characters in country music history. One of the pioneering artists of the outlaw country movement of the '70s, he didn't have many big hits–only three of his singles hit the Top Ten — but he was among the biggest cult figures in country music throughout his career.

Since the 2003 release of his debut album Undertones, singer-songwriter Corey Smith has been flying high under the radar, attracting an enthusiastic grassroots following with an Americana sound that is all his own. Drawing heavily from the blues, country, and rock traditions of the South, he applies the back-porch twang of an acoustic guitar, a soulful singing voice, and well-crafted lyrics to the task of creating music that is at once distinct and familiar. Audiences are certainly responding -proving that a genuine, unpretentious approach to songwriting and live performance has mass appeal.

All it takes is a few seconds of "Hotel" to make the truth clear: City Sleeps is poised to shock the world. That first track, titled Hotel, is a flower blossoming against a rumble of thunder. Not since Queen has there been anything quite like this wash of voices, delicate at first and then billowing into plumes of harmony, organ, and harmonized guitar, leading in just a few seconds toward the explosion that kicks off track two, Prototype.

“We just do what we do. And it's a very natural thing. It's a thing we find joy in and it's a lifestyle that we've pursued for... ever,” says guitarist/vocalist Jeb Puryear, one of the band's two primary songwriters. “We don't manipulate any of our circumstances for the market.” That includes the band's sound, which piles reggae, rock, country, zydeco, Cajun, and folk on top of old-time fiddle music to create a combination best described as original American dance music.

Moonshine Still was conceived in the summer of 1996 when lead singer/ guitarist Scott Baston and bass player Ray Petren teamed up with several other musicians in Macon, GA. Will Robinson (drums, vocals) joined up that fall and they began working on a soulful sound deep with roots that yearned to go some place new. With the original line up, Moonshine Still began touring the southeast and building a reputation as an up and coming band to see, opening for acts like Col.Bruce Hampton and Beanstalk and playing festivals such as The Summer Sun Fest. in Cochran, GA. In 1997, the band went in to record it's self titled studio album and everything seemed to be lining up for Moonshine Still.
